The USB connectivity makes the programming of the non-volatile memory very simple - a dedicated and intuitive Windows® interface has been included on the CD-ROM, which comes with the SmartGen 3.1 encoder. After completing the programming procedure, the unit can be disconnected and re-installed at the transmitter site. Using the SmartGen Basic RDS/RBDS Encoders Manager, all the RDS programming information can be saved as a file before, after, or instead of sending the information to the encoder. This could be very useful when various programming segments throughout the broadcast day have program-specific RDS settings or messages, or for changing advertising or station promos at random.
